From the sales of netbooks, it seems like these little ultra-portable laptops are set do take over the laptop market. Since the introduction of the first ASUS Eee netbook, these little machines have taken over the world by storm, much to the surprise of many experts. Although it has been barely two years since the netbook has been introduced to the markets, the new generation of netbooks today has come a long way. The first ultra portables produced were designed for ultra portability and internet surfing. Processing power was low so heavy duty programs are strictly off limits.
The truth is, tiny laptops have been in the markets for a very long time. 4 to 10 inch laptops have been produced by companies like Fujitsu and Sony for many years now but the prohibiting factor was its astronomical price (sometimes costing twice the price of regular laptops)
One of the biggest selling points of netbooks besides its size is its price. They cost half the price of regular laptop yet has most of the features of an average laptop. These ultra-portable laptops are called ‘netbooks’ as they are capable of little more than surfing the internet, media playback and light word processing. All this is set to change with the introduction of Intels Atom processor. The new generation of netbooks today is almost as powerful as regular laptops. They also have lots of hard drive space (up to 160GB) and impressive battery lifespan.
In a year or two when the specs gap between netbooks and laptops narrows, it is predicted that netbooks will become the best-selling computers in the market. Asus is the pioneer in netbooks rolling with its Eee PC series. Its latest ASUS Eee 1000HA 10-Inch netbook is currently the best selling netbook in the market. Like many ultra-portables, this model runs on Windows XP and has a 160 GB hard disk drive (HDD). It is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor and has a 10-inch LED backlight screen. It is sturdily built and has a good solid casing.
Another popular model in the market is the Acer Aspire One 8.9 inch netbook. Amongst all the major manufacturers of laptops, it is Acer that came one with a netbook that seriously rivals the Asus Eee PC series in terms of specs and sales. One of the biggest selling points of the Acer Aspire one series is its design. It comes in a variety of colors and sports a sleek, stylish design. In terms of aesthetics, it is no doubt that the Acer Aspire One looks much better that any Asus netbooks. The specs of the Acer model is similar to the Asus Eee 1000HA.
The Samsung NC10 10.2-inch netbooks is another hot-selling modeling in the market. The Samsung netbook sports a flatter design with a glossy cover that comes in a variety of colors. With specs similar to other netbooks in the market the selling point would have to be its brand and design. At just 2.8 pounds, this is one of the lightest 10-inch netbook in the market today.
